Cremonese's English footballer Jamie Vardy appeared on the field in the match against Roma with his wife Rebekah's name on the back of his number 10 jersey.
Idman.Biz reports that this gesture was intended to show Vardy's respect for his wife Rebekah, as well as to raise awareness and support for violence against women.
This was part of a league-wide initiative. Players were asked to display the names of women close to them instead of their own names. Vardy chose the name of his wife of nine years, Rebekah, joining his teammates and other Serie A teams in showing support.
As part of the initiative, Cremonese, along with clubs such as Lazio, Parma, Udine and Lecce, celebrated the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women.
It should be noted that C. Vardi and Rebekah have been together since 2014. They have six children. The couple recently moved to Italy, and Vardi transferred to Cremonese after ending his long career at Leicester.
