The Azerbaijani national team lost to Iceland 0-5 in the first match of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round.
Apasport.az reports that after the game, AFFA Secretary General Jahangir Farajullayev gave a statement to journalists.
The official stated that after this result, the ways should be parted with the head coach: "We expect resignation from Fernando Santos. If he does not resign at the press conference, measures will be taken regarding this."
It should be noted that the Azerbaijani national team will play its next match against the Ukrainian national team on September 9.
