Deep reforms are needed in Italian football.
"Report" reports that the country's Minister of Sports and Youth, Andrea Abodi, said this in an interview with Diretta Calcio Mercato.
According to the minister, the restructuring process should start from the highest level of football management. He emphasized the importance of personnel changes in the Italian Football Federation.
This statement was made after the Italian national team failed to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. The team led by Gennaro Gattuso lost to the Bosnia and Herzegovina team in the decisive match of the play-off stage.
The main and extra time of the game ended with a score of 1:1, and the opponent was superior in the penalty shootout with a score of 4:1.
It should be noted that "Squadra Azzurra", which last participated in the 2014 World Cup, was eliminated from the tournament in 2018 and 2022, losing to Sweden and North Macedonia in the play-off stage, respectively.
The 2026 World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19.
