Italian referee Gabriele Caggiari has been banned from football for two years.
"Report" reports, citing "Gazzetta dello Sport", that this was due to the referee wishing Alessandro Saleni, the midfielder of the D Series representative "Pro Sesto", to have cancer.
The incident occurred in November 2024 when Caggiari was the head referee of the match between "Milan" and "Pro Sesto" in Group B of the D Series.
The footballer requested to be substituted, stating that the referee wished him to have cancer.
It should be noted that the match ended with a 2:1 victory for "Pro Sesto".
