Iceland national team footballer Isak Johannesson shared his thoughts on the victory over Azerbaijan (5:0) in Group D as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Sport24.az reports that the player, who scored a brace in the said match, said in a statement to the 433.is website:
"I am very happy. We talked a lot, but now we have shown how strong we are. Everyone who wore the Icelandic national team jersey played great. Unfortunately, I couldn't score the third goal, I couldn't send the ball into the corner. Scoring and celebrating in the national team is such a feeling that cannot be explained. Azerbaijanis were showing anti-football - they often fell to the ground and just kicked the ball forward. We waited for our moment and found the necessary gaps in the second half."
