Iran will not participate in the 2026 World Cup draw. According to Sport24.az, this was announced by Amir Mehdi Alavi, a representative of the Iranian Football Federation, in a statement to state television.
The reason for this is the visa restrictions imposed by the US on athletes from Iran. He said they took this step because they considered the restrictions to be non-sporting in nature.
It should be noted that a total of 48 teams will participate in the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026. The draw ceremony will take place in Washington on December 5 this year.
