The Iranian Football Federation is in talks with FIFA to move the 2026 World Cup games from the USA to Mexico. Sport24.az reports that the President of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, announced this from the country's embassy in Mexico:
"Since US President Donald Trump has explicitly stated that he cannot guarantee the safety of the Iranian national team, we will definitely not travel to the US.
We are in talks with FIFA to hold the World Cup games in Mexico."
It should be noted that the Iranian national team is scheduled to play all three group stage games in the United States. The team is in Group G together with Belgium, Egypt, and New Zealand.
