The Islamic Republic of Iran has declared that it expects a special security guarantee from the international body to participate in the 2026 World Cup.
Idman.Biz reports that the country's Minister of Sports and Youth, Ahmad Donyamali, stated that their application to FIFA regarding Iran's matches planned in the USA being played in Mexico is still in effect.
The Minister emphasized that they have not yet received an official response, but they will agree to participate in the tournament if the proposal is accepted. Although he noted that the players are continuing their preparations, he emphasized that the final decision regarding participation in the competition will be made by the state.
Reminding that, according to FIFA's current rules, the host country must ensure the safety of each team, Ahmad Donyamali said that in the current circumstances, the probability of Iran participating in games in the USA is low.
It should be reminded that US President Donald Trump warned that the participation of the Iranian national team in the tournament would not be safe.
