"We respect "Shafa", being a leader in the I League means they are competitive and self-confident. But we also trust our preparation and quality."
This was stated by "Gabala" defender Isaac Amoah in an interview with sportal.az.
We present this interview:
- "Gabala" won the 2nd victory of the season in this round. How was the game against "Araz-Nakhchivan" for you? Can we say that everything went as you wanted?
- The match started tensely from the first minute. But we were ready for it. We started well, scored an early goal, and even after they equalized, we remained calm and organized. Personally, I felt comfortable on the field, we were disciplined in defense, communicated well, and controlled key moments. The game was not perfect, but as a team we followed the coach's plan and won.
- "Araz-Nakhchivan" is considered one of the ambitious clubs of the championship. What was the decisive moment in the match against them?
- I think the decisive factor was our mentality. After conceding a goal, no one panicked, we maintained our game structure, remained aggressive in duels, and believed that the second goal would come. In the second half, our transitions were sharper and we showed more desire to win three points. This mentality and unity made the difference.
- In your opinion, why did "Gabala" win its 2nd victory in the 13th round at best, even though it played well this season? What prevented you from winning?
- Sometimes good games don't immediately translate into results. We had games where we dominated, but lacked the final details or made small mistakes that led to points losses. Also, we are still a young team building chemistry. But what is important is that our games remain stable and now we are turning it into results. This victory shows our progress.
- "Gabala" increased its score to 8 and rose to 10th place. Can we say that the fight to stay in the Premier League will be between "Gabala", "Kapaz" and "Karvan-Yevlakh", or does "Gabala" have higher goals?
- Our first goal is always to secure Premier League status, but personally I believe we can set higher goals. We respect every opponent, but at the same time we trust our quality. We can climb the standings with more consistency. The season is long and we are improving every week. So, we do not limit ourselves only to fighting to stay in the league.
- In four days you will face "Shafa" in the national cup. How do you rate your chances of winning against the leader in the I League? What is Gabala's goal in the cup?
- We respect "Shafa", being a leader in the I League means they are competitive and self-confident. But we also trust our preparation and quality. The cup is important for "Gabala" and we want to go as far as possible. We believe that if we focus, play our football and maintain the same fighting spirit as in the match with "Araz-Nakhchivan", we can move forward.
