Lev Yashin, former goalkeeper of Moscow "Dynamo" of the USSR and the Union national team, was chosen as the best goalkeeper in history by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS).
"Report" informs that the press service of the organization has released information about this.
Italian Gianluigi Buffon is in second place, and German Manuel Neuer is in third place.
The top ten also include Iker Casillas, Ricardo Zamora (both Spain), Gordon Banks (England), Petr Čech (Czech Republic), Dino Zoff (Italy), Sepp Mayer and Oliver Kahn (both Germany).
It should be noted that Lev Yashin played for "Dynamo" in 1950-1971, and wore the uniform of the USSR national team in 1954-1967. He was a 5-time USSR champion as part of "Dynamo". In addition, he won 5 silver medals, 1 bronze medal, and 3 USSR Cups. The former "glove holder" together with the national team won the 1956 Olympic Games and the 1960 European Championship. The goalkeeper also finished the 1964 European Championship with a silver medal. Yashin is the only goalkeeper in history to win the "Golden Ball". He died on March 20, 1990 in Moscow at the age of 61.
