Inigo Perez, head coach of the Spanish club Rayo Vallecano, made a statement after their 1-2 derby defeat to Real Madrid in the 22nd round of La Liga.
Idman.Biz reports that the specialist emphasized that his team played superior despite conceding a penalty in the final minutes.
"The reality is that we lost. But there were many positive moments in the game. I am proud of my team. I say it openly: when it was 11 against 11, we were better than Real. We were very close to victory," said Perez.
Perez also touched on the psychological difficulty of playing at the Santiago Bernabeu:
"This stadium instills fear in people, but despite this, we were close to winning. Even after being outnumbered, we were well organized in defense. We just lacked a bit of determination in the penalty area."
Perez declined to comment on questions regarding the refereeing.
