FIFA President Gianni Infantino has commented on the removal of the Russian national team from international competitions.
Idman.Biz reports that the Russian national team has been suspended from official matches under the auspices of FIFA and UEFA since 2022. Russian clubs are also banned from participating in international competitions.
"We owe it to ourselves to think about it (reviewing the removal of the Russian national team from international competitions - ed.). Of course. This ban has achieved nothing; it has only created more frustration and hatred. It would be helpful for girls and boys from Russia to be able to play football in other parts of Europe," Infantino said, citing Sky News.
In addition, the FIFA president said that the organization should consider amending its rules and including a clause in its statutes stating that no country can be deprived of playing football for political reasons.
