FIFA President Gianni Infantino is confident that the 2026 World Cup will be a success.
Idman.Biz reports that the World Cup will be held in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
"The World Cup will be fantastic and phenomenal. There has never been so much excitement in the USA, Mexico, and Canada before. We received over 500 million ticket requests in four weeks. It's incredible. We have approximately seven million tickets, but 500 million requests are unprecedented in the history of FIFA or any organization.
More than one million ticket requests have been received for 77 of the 104 matches, and the rest are at about the same level. We are keeping some tickets in reserve to follow the progress and final days of the tournament. Every stadium will be full - it will definitely be a joy.
It used to be said that football or 'soccer' as they call it, was not very popular in the United States. All that has changed. The tournament will be a success.
This will be the first World Cup with 48 teams, 104 matches, in 16 cities and three countries... a huge thing awaits us. It's more than just a tournament, a sporting competition - it's a social phenomenon that will make the whole world stop and watch," the FIFA president said.
