FIFA President Gianni Infantino has condemned the behavior of Senegalese players and fans after their Africa Cup of Nations final match against Morocco.
Idman.Biz reports that after a controversial penalty against Senegal, head coach Pape Thiaw removed the team from the field, while fans of the "Lions of Teranga" tried to storm the pitch. Sadio Mane later brought his teammates back from the dressing room, and Brahim Diaz failed to convert the penalty. Pape Gueye's goal in extra time secured the victory for Senegal.
"We strongly condemn the behavior of the Senegalese players entering the dressing room and consider such behavior unacceptable. The terrible scenes we witnessed must be condemned and never repeated.
Leaving the field in this way is unacceptable, and violence in our sport cannot be tolerated - it is simply unacceptable. We must always respect the decisions of the referees, both on and off the field. Teams must act in accordance with the rules of the game, because any other behavior jeopardizes the essence of football!" - RFI quotes Infantino's words.
