Galatasaray's 34-year-old midfielder İlkay Gündoğan spoke about the need for his teammate Leroy Sane to return to the German national team.
According to İdman.Biz, Gündoğan is against judging a football player based on statistics.
"Personally, for me, Leroy deserves to be in the national team at the 2026 World Cup. He doesn't play for just any club right now, he plays for Galatasaray, and that's a high level. Personally, I don't judge my teammates solely on their statistics. And I don't think the Turkish league is bad. Of course, you can't compare it to the Premier League, but no league in the world can be compared to it. Accordingly, you need to look at everything from a slightly different perspective," - Kicker quoted Gündoğan as saying.
This season, 29-year-old Sane has played 9 games in all competitions for the club, scored one goal and provided two assists.
