From this season, the II League will be held with different regulations. The championship, in which 12 teams compete, will consist of two rounds. Then the participants will be divided into two "top sixes".
The question here is - how will the points be calculated in the "top six"?
Idman.biz reports that the technical sports director of the PFL, Elgiz Abbasov, clarified the unclear point in his statement to Sportinfo.az:
"Initially, the teams compete in two rounds in the first stage. Each team plays one home and one away game with the same opponent.
Based on the results, they are divided into two "top sixes" according to their position in the tournament table. Five rounds are held in this stage.
The teams in the first "top six" determine the champion and prize-winners among themselves, as well as the teams that advance to the I League, while the result of the competition of those in the second "top six" determines who stays in the league and who leaves the league.
Guided by sports principles, the teams start the second stage by keeping in their assets the points they scored in the first 22 rounds, all the goals scored and conceded, and disciplinary measures.
After 27 rounds, the winner of the II League qualifies for the I League if they meet the licensing conditions. The second-place winner faces the team that takes 9th place in the I League in the play-offs. The team that takes 12th place in the League leaves the competition. The winner of the Regional League advances to the II League.
The teams that take 11th and 10th place in the II League face the teams that take second and third place in the Regional League in the play-offs, respectively. The play-off consists of 1 game and is held on a neutral field".
