Cristiano Ronaldo once personally called Lionel Messi after learning that he had won the "Ballon d'Or" in 2017.
According to Lent.az, citing foreign media, Ronaldo had four "Ballon d'Or" awards at the time, while Messi had five.
Ronaldo was preparing to win his fifth "Ballon d'Or", equalling Messi's record. However, information leaked to the media before the result was officially announced, and Ronaldo found out about it beforehand.
According to the Spanish publication "Don Balon", Ronaldo called Messi and informed him of his victory.
Luka Modrić ended their dominance in 2018, but Messi has since won three more "Ballon d'Or" awards, bringing his total to 8. Ronaldo has not been able to win this award since 2017.
