Hamburg midfielder Jean-Luc Dompe has received disciplinary action for drunk driving.
Idman.Biz reports that the player was stopped by police in late January and a breathalyzer test revealed alcohol in his system. The club has punished the French footballer for this violation.
Hamburg's management held a disciplinary meeting with the 30-year-old player. Dompe was informed that he would be fined a record six-figure sum for the club and suspended from Bundesliga games until further notice.
"I realize that a simple apology is not enough. I have not lived up to the expectations placed on me as a role model. I have made serious mistakes and will, of course, accept all the consequences. I understand how disappointed the club, the coaching staff, and all the fans who have supported me so far are. I am truly sorry. I also apologize for disappointing the team at this important time," Dompe told Hamburg's official website.
The player also announced his intention to engage in social work. Dompe is expected to return to training this week. Hamburg will monitor his progress and assess his chances of a potential return to the field.
