Azerbaijan's prestigious "Qarabagh" Football Club stopped competing in the tournament by losing to the English representative "Newcastle" with a score of 2:3 (first game 1:6) in the return game of the Champions League play-off stage.
Idman.Biz reports that Qurban Gurbanov, the head coach of "Qarabagh", who made a statement to journalists at Heydar Aliyev International Airport, said that despite the defeat, it was a great experience for the team.
"We didn't have a bad ending. We have developed a lot as a club. It was not easy to prepare for the return match due to the result of the first game. The opponent forced us to make mistakes," he said.
Q. Gurbanov added that the support of the fans in Baku made the team feel the weight of the tournament once again:
"It was very gratifying that the fans supported us until the end, and in every game we had 1500-2000 rival fans in the stadium. I also played as a football player at the 'Newcastle' stadium, but I had a different experience as a head coach. After the game started, all the moments were forgotten" (laughs).
