German footballer of Turkish origin İlkay Gündoğan will continue his career at "Galatasaray".
İdman.biz reports that in his address to fans on his social media account, he revealed the reason for leaving "Manchester City".
Gündoğan stated that he wants to play more football: "Dear 'citizens', I want to be completely honest with you: the reason for my departure is simple – I still want to play as much football as possible because it's what I love most. I'll be 35 soon, but I feel in good shape and sincerely believe that I can continue to play at a high level in a team that plays in the Champions League. Moreover, I have the opportunity to play in a team from a country that I have loved since childhood and that means a lot to me.
I understand and respect that "Manchester City" needs a fresh start after a fantastic period. I will never forget what this club has done for me over the years. The club and Manchester will always remain in my heart.
I thank all my teammates, the club management, every fan, and of course Pep, who made this period possible. I leave "City" with a deep sense of gratitude. Thank you on behalf of my family".
It should be noted that Gündoğan played 358 matches in all tournaments for the "citizens", scored 65 goals and provided 47 assists. He became the English champion 5 times with "Manchester City" and won the Champions League once.
