After the final match between Uzbekistan and Iran in the 2025 Asian Nations Cup, FIFA President Gianni Infantino entered the Iranian footballers' dressing room and addressed them.
Idman.biz reports that the game ended 1:0 in favor of the Uzbekistan national team.
"The Iranian national team played at a very high level on the field today. You can be very proud of this.
I can now tell you with confidence - the Iranian national team will participate in the 2026 World Cup! So, welcome to the World Cup in the USA, Canada and Mexico!", - the FIFA president noted.
He addressed the players again, saying: "You have earned your place in the World Cup by bringing pride to your country and your family. You made 80 million Iranians happy. One of the Iranian players gave me a jersey from the 1998 World Cup, I still have it and it is dear to me.
I remember the World Cup in Qatar, the Iran-Wales game was an incredible and amazing match. This is the feeling of football and the whole stadium stood up and applauded. We must unite the world. You played very well, you have a strong team. There are victories and defeats in football, and you are really strong and you should be proud of yourselves."
Infantino's words were greeted with applause by members of the Iranian national team.
It is worth recalling that there were earlier reports that US President Donald Trump opposed Iranians coming to America to participate in the World Cup due to political disputes between the US and Iran.
