Gheorghe Hagi is close to becoming the new head coach of the Romanian national football team. Sport24.az reports that "Fanatik" has published this information.
According to the source, the 61-year-old specialist is the most realistic candidate to replace Mircea Lucescu, who has recently experienced health problems.
Although a decision regarding the new coach has not yet been made, Hagi is expected to coach the Romanian national team in the 2026/27 Nations League and the 2028 Euro qualifying rounds.
He has experience working with the Romanian national team. The living legend of Romanian football led the "yellows" in two matches in 2001.
It should be noted that Hagi's last job was "Viitorul", which he left in 2025. During his coaching career, he coached "Galatasaray" and "Bursaspor".
