Former "Barcelona" player Gerard López harshly criticized the team's current head coach, Hansi Flick, after their 1:4 defeat against "Sevilla" in La Liga.
İdman.biz reported this with reference to foreign media.
According to López, the high defensive line tactic implemented by the German specialist is now "suicidal" and should have been reviewed a long time ago.
López, who played for the club from 2000–2005, stated that opponents have already adapted to Flick's style of play, who has been working with the team for more than a year:
"It is clear that "Barcelona's" results are getting worse. This defeat could be a signal to reconsider the defensive aspect. It is one thing to move forward and do it with quality, and it is quite another to play suicidally. If there is no pressure on the ball, the team is forced to retreat. Flick has been working for a year and a half, and it is time to critically evaluate "Barcelona" for its defensive tactics. In the last game, the pressing was weak, and the opponent was allowed to play freely for a long time," López said in a statement to "Catalunya Ràdio".
It should be noted that the defeat to "Sevilla" is "Barcelona's" second consecutive defeat in a week. The team had previously lost to PSG at home in the Champions League (1:2).
