"Galatasaray" is determined to sign a new goalkeeper for the 2025/26 season and has long identified "Manchester City" star Ederson as their primary target.
Idman.biz reports that, however, financial difficulties are jeopardizing this transfer.
The high transfer fee demanded by "Manchester City" and the Brazilian goalkeeper's salary demands have complicated negotiations. However, Manchester club recently transferred James Trafford from "Burnley" and Pep Guardiola is expected to favor him as the main goalkeeper this season.
Due to the increasingly unlikely nature of the transfer for Ederson, according to "Sempre Barca", "Galatasaray" may turn to a familiar name – "Barcelona" goalkeeper Inaki Pena.
The 26-year-old footballer played for "Galatasaray" on loan in the second half of the 2021/22 season - he protected the goal in 6 matches in the Super League. Currently, head coach Hansi Flick considers him the fourth goalkeeper at "Barcelona".
Reportedly, "Galatasaray" is preparing an offer worth 8-10 million euros for the Spanish goalkeeper.
However, the club must also be prepared for serious competition in this transfer. "Como" from Serie A has joined the fight to transfer Pena.
"Barcelona" wants a buy-back clause and a percentage of future sales in the potential transfer agreement. Also, the Catalan club may only agree to Pena's departure after the official registration of Erik Garcia or Wojciech Szczesny in La Liga is completed.
"Galatasaray" does not only see Pena as an alternative option in case Ederson's transfer does not take place - the club sees him as a long-term investment and values him for his leadership qualities, composure and ball control skills.
According to "Sempre Barca", it is not yet known what will happen to Pena's future, but he has the potential to play in a club like "Galatasaray" and all attention is focused on how this issue will develop.
It should be noted that Günay Güvenç protected Galatasaray's goal in the first round of the 2025/26 season in the Super League.
