"The Patriotic War, which started on September 27, ended with a magnificent Victory after 44 days. I am still impressed when I remember those days."
These words were said by Asif Mammadov, the coach playing in the "Gabala" team, who voluntarily joined the battles for Aghdam during the 44-day Patriotic War, in his statement to AZERTAC.
He said that participating in the Patriotic War was a source of pride for him: "At that time, everyone was united and trying to go to the front. There is always Victory where there is unity. Our people proved this to the world. We had martyrs and veterans. This is normal in war. We were on the defensive. Of course, the presence of famous athletes there at that time gave additional enthusiasm to the fighters and young soldiers."
Originally from Abdal-Gulably village of Aghdam region, A. Mammadov said that he is looking forward to the day he will return to his homeland: "After the war, I went and found our house and showed it to my family. Thanks to the President, Supreme Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, our martyrs and veterans, people returned to their homes. Reconstruction works are already underway at a high level in those places. We are proud of our state."
It should be noted that the midfielder, who has been playing in "Gabala" since the summer of 2015, also wore the uniform of "red-blacks" in the second half of the 2006/2007 season. He played one game for the Azerbaijani national team.
