Former England international Gary Lineker will announce his departure from the BBC on May 19 after a scandal over the publication of anti-Semitic content. Sport24.az reports that The Guardian reported this.
According to the source, the host of "Match of the Day" and the BBC management will terminate the contract by mutual agreement. Lineker was supposed to work on the air until the end of the 2026 World Cup.
Last week, 64-year-old Lineker apologized after posting a video on social media about Palestine. More than 10,000 people signed a petition calling for Lineker's resignation.
It should be noted that the BBC paid Lineker 1.4 million pounds sterling in 2024. He has been working for Britain's largest broadcaster for 26 years.
