Following "Barcelona"'s 3-0 victory over "Oviedo" in the 21st round of the Spanish La Liga, head coach Hans-Dieter Flick shared his thoughts on Joau Cancelo's first game in the starting lineup.
Idman.Biz reports that the German specialist stated that the Portuguese defender has already shown his potential in training, despite recently joining the team. According to Flick, Cancelo needs time to adapt to the club's style of play and philosophy, but he believes he will improve.
The head coach also noted that he wanted to give Alex Balde a rest in this game.
Flick emphasized that high pressing played a decisive role in the match. According to him, the team's main advantage was quickly winning the ball back and constantly putting pressure on the opponent to score goals. The specialist specifically mentioned Lamin's goal, but stated that he was more satisfied with this component of the game than with the result.
"Barcelona"'s head coach attributed the team's failure to reach the desired level in the first half to the intense match schedule and continuous travel. He noted that the team has been playing on a tight schedule recently, and the different climatic conditions have affected the players. Nevertheless, Flick emphasized that the team showed character in the second half and scored important goals.
It should be noted that "Barcelona" signed Joau Cancelo on loan from "Al-Hilal" on January 13. After 21 rounds in La Liga, the Catalan club leads the standings with 52 points. "Oviedo" is in last place, 20th, with 13 points.
