A 27-year-old man will be the first person to be charged in England with entering a football match without a ticket. Sport24.az reports with reference to the BBC that the incident occurred at Wembley during the League Cup final between Arsenal and Manchester City (2-0).
The new law came into effect on March 22, a few hours before the end of the match. According to Scotland Yard, 27-year-old Benjamin Bailey from Oldham will appear in court on May 1 in connection with the alleged crime.
It should be noted that the new law was introduced in July 2021 after serious riots at Wembley during the European Championship final match between England and Italy, when thousands of fans forcibly entered the stadium. The new rule aims to prevent fans without tickets from closely following valid ticket holders through the turnstiles.
