The match held within the 16th round of the Sixth League in the Prešov region of Slovakia was marked by a scandal.
Idman.Biz reports that the tension peaked in the 75th minute of the match between "Rojkovany" and Ostrovan's "Inter" clubs. The referee's decision to award a penalty in favor of the home team while the score was 1:1 caused a strong reaction from visiting fans.
According to witnesses, a group of fans broke through the security barriers and started a mass brawl with organizers and local fans.
Rastislav Popusha, the executive representative of the village of Ostrovan and the head of the "Inter" club, admitted that the incident was serious, but said that the fault was not entirely theirs. According to him, the incident was caused by the provocation of the home team:
"Emotions take over when you are insulted. There is an old rivalry between the two settlements."
It should be noted that the game, which was continued after a short break, ended with a score of 2:2. The management of "Rojkovany" is concerned that the financial penalties to be imposed by the disciplinary commission could be devastating for a small club.
