Seven Malaysian national team footballers have been banned from football for 12 months. Sport24.az reports that the FIFA official website has released information about this. They were also fined $2,100.
Gabriel Palermo (Unionistas), Rodrigo Holgado (America), Imanol Machuca (Velez), Joao Figueiredo (Johop), Jon Irazabal (Johop) and Hector Hevel (Johop) were also punished along with Alaves defender Facundo Garces. All three used false citizenship documents to participate in the Asian Cup qualifier against Vietnam on June 10th.
The Malaysian Football Association had to pay a fine of 374,000 euros. The organization and players have 10 days to appeal.
It should be noted that Jon Irazabal, one of those punished, left Sabah last summer and joined the Malaysian club Johop.
