FIFA President Gianni Infantino has stated that the organization has no alternative options regarding the participation of the Iranian national team in the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico in 2026.
It should be reminded that earlier, the Iranian Minister of Sports, Ahmad Donyamali, stated that the national team's participation in the tournament would not be possible due to the current geopolitical situation.
Idman.Biz reports, citing foreign media, that Infantino admitted that the situation with the Iranian team is complicated, but emphasized that work continues to ensure the best conditions for them to hold their games at the World Cup.
The FIFA head also noted that the organization respectfully acknowledges that the Iranian national team qualified for the tournament in advance and solely based on sporting results.
"We have no Plan B, C or D - there is only Plan A. We live in a difficult geopolitical environment, and it is not in our power to resolve it, but we have the opportunity to bring people together and create an atmosphere of peace and celebration," Infantino added.
