FIFA President Gianni Infantino hopes that all national teams, including Iran, will participate in the World Cup to be held this summer. Sport24.az reports that he made a statement on the official website of the supreme football body:
"FIFA cannot solve geopolitical conflicts, but we are determined to use the power of football and the World Cup to build bridges and promote peace. Because our thoughts are with those suffering as a result of ongoing wars."
FIFA looks forward to all teams competing in the World Cup in a spirit of fair play and mutual respect. We have a schedule, we hope to confirm that 48 teams will join the World Cup soon."
It should be noted that in late February, the United States and Israel launched a large-scale military operation against Iran. Shortly after, reports emerged that the Iranian national team would refuse to participate in the World Cup, which will be held in the USA, Canada and Mexico between June 11 and July 19. Later, the president of the Iranian Football Federation, Mehdi Taj, said that the national team would not boycott the World Cup and that he was discussing with FIFA the possibility of moving the team's matches to Mexico.
