FIFA has announced the establishment of a new international award called the "Peace Prize." Sport24.az, citing "The Guardian," reports that this was announced by the organization's President, Gianni Infantino.
According to him, the organization he leads will present the award at the draw ceremony for the 2026 World Cup. It was stated that the new award aims to honor "individuals who contribute to uniting people in peace around the world." The winner's name will be announced on December 5 in Washington.
Infantino emphasized that in today's tense and divided world, it is of great importance to appreciate the efforts of those working for peace:
"Football represents peace, and through this award, we will recognize those who bring people together on behalf of the entire football world."
It is noted that the "FIFA Peace Prize" is likely to be awarded to US President Donald Trump. According to reports, Infantino said that Trump played an important role in the peace process during the Gaza crisis and emphasized that he removed obstacles.
