FIFA has expressed serious concern about the lack of hype surrounding the upcoming 2026 World Cup.
According to İdman.Biz, the organization cannot explain the reason for the low interest in the tournament, despite it being the first World Cup with 48 participating countries.
According to the social media account X of "The Touchline", many tickets have not been sold, which raises questions among FIFA management. Despite only four months remaining until the tournament, its scale does not match the expected interest from spectators and fans.
It should be noted that FIFA President Gianni Infantino presented record figures for the 2026 World Cup with 48 teams when speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland last month. He noted that 104 matches will be played in 16 magnificent stadiums in three countries. The stadiums will hold approximately 7 million spectators, and approximately 6 billion people worldwide will watch it on television.
Infantino, emphasizing that they received more than 500 million applications in the first phase of ticket sales, also said that in the approximately 100-year history of World Cups, FIFA has sold only approximately 50 million tickets in total. They received applications equal to 1000 years of World Cup history in four weeks, which shows great interest in the tournament.
The World Cup will be held in three countries - the USA, Canada and Mexico - from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
