The national team wants to bring joy to the Azerbaijani people by winning. Sport24.az reports that this was stated by Fernandu Santos, the head coach of the Azerbaijan national football team, at a press conference.
The specialist shared his thoughts on the qualifying match for the 2026 World Cup against the Icelandic national team:
"Normally, all games are difficult. We will try to return from the away match with a good result. We have analyzed the opponent well. Iceland has high-level players in its squad. They like to keep the ball. I have given my players the necessary information about the Icelandic national team. As the home team, we will also try to win."
He said that the players will be fully ready by match day:
"Due to the cold weather conditions in Reykjavik, we planned to arrive 3-4 days before the trip. The morning of the day we arrived was difficult for the players. But slowly they are already getting used to Iceland and I think they will be fully ready for the game. Our players want to leave the first match with a victory." (Report)
It should be noted that the Iceland-Azerbaijan match, which will take place on September 5, will start at 22:45 Baku time.
