Fernandu Santos, the coach of the Azerbaijan national football team, has offered his condolences on the death of his former defender, former defender of "Porto" and the Portuguese national team, Jorge Costa.
Idman.biz reports that the 70-year-old specialist said in a statement to the Portuguese Lusa agency:
"This is a shock and a great loss. I returned to Baku, looked at the news and was shocked by this event. I offer my condolences to his family and Porto. In fact, he was my friend. Jorge was the captain of "Porto" when I coached the team for three years. We had an excellent relationship. He was a captain both on and off the field. In fact, he is a player who left his mark on the history of "Porto". He belongs to the generation that won the 1991 World Championship among under-20 football players held in Lisbon in the history of Portuguese football."
Former "Porto" captain and EURO-2000 bronze medalist Jorge Costa died of a heart attack on August 5 at the age of 53. He spent most of his career at "Porto", and also played for the Portuguese national team, making 50 appearances and scoring two goals.
