Reports in the Spanish press have suggested that relations between Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde and head coach Xabi Alonso have deteriorated. Sport24.az reports that the Uruguayan footballer allegedly refused to play in the defender position. The 27-year-old player released a statement saying that the news spread does not reflect the truth:
"I have read several articles that damage my reputation. I know that I have had bad games, I am aware of this. I do not hide, I go directly to the criticisms. I'm really very sad.
People can say many things about me, but in no case can they make such a claim that I refused to play. I have given everything, even more, for this club. I have been on the field broken and injured and I have never complained, I have not asked for a break.
I have a good relationship with the head coach, which gives me enough confidence to tell him what position I prefer to play on the field. But I have always, always made it clear that I am ready to play in any position, on any trip and in every game.
I have put my heart and soul into this club and I will continue to do so, even if sometimes it is not enough, or even if I don't play the way I want.
I swear on my pride that I will never give up and I will fight to the end, I will play wherever I am needed."
