ESPN Releases List of Best Transfers in Premier League History

ESPN has compiled a list of the best transfers in Premier League history.

Idman.Biz reports that the following criteria were used to create the rating, which includes 50 deals: the player had to have already played in the main team of another team (excluding academy transfers), the contract had to be permanent (i.e., excluding loans), and the player's achievements at other clubs were not taken into account.

The top 20 transfers include:

20. David Silva, from Valencia to Manchester City for 28.8 million euros in the 2010/11 season.
19. Claude Makelele, from Real Madrid to Chelsea for 20 million euros in the 2003/04 season.
18. Virgil van Dijk, from Southampton to Liverpool for 84.7 million euros in the 2017/18 season.
17. Rio Ferdinand, from Leeds to Manchester United for 46 million euros in the 2002/03 season.
16. Rodri, from Atletico Madrid to Manchester City for 70 million euros in the 2019/20 season.
15. Kevin De Bruyne, from Wolfsburg to Manchester City for 76 million euros in the 2015/16 season.
14. Dennis Bergkamp, from Inter to Arsenal for 11.3 million euros in the 1995/96 season.
13. Didier Drogba, from Marseille to Chelsea for 38.5 million euros in the 2004/05 season.
12. Roy Keane, from Nottingham Forest to Manchester United for 4.4 million euros in the 1993/94 season.
11. Wayne Rooney, from Everton to Manchester United for 37 million euros in the 2004/05 season.
10. Eric Cantona, from Leeds to Manchester United for 1.8 million euros in the 1992/93 season.
