Thus, he repeated the record of Polish Robert Lewandowski, who scored 16 goals in the qualifying round of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The record in this indicator belongs to the former Iranian national team midfielder Karim Bagheri. He scored 19 goals in the qualifying round of the 1998 World Cup.
