The captain of the Azerbaijan national team, Emin Mahmudov, scored a goal in the qualifying match for DÇ-2026 against the Ukrainian national team, setting a historical record. Sport24.az reports that the midfielder has become the most productive football player in the national team, bringing the number of his goals to 15.
He broke the 21-year-old record of former striker Gurban Gurbanov. The head coach of "Qarabagh" scored 14 times in 68 games for the national team between 1992 and 2005.
Gurbanov scored his last goal in a friendly match against Latvia (2:2) in 2004. Emin Mahmudov, in his 56th match for the Azerbaijan national team, which he has defended since 2016, reached 15 goals.
