"I congratulate the entire Azerbaijani people." Sport24.az reports that these words were said by Qarabag footballer Elvin Jafarquliyev.
The wing defender shared his thoughts on the 2:2 draw with English representative Chelsea in Baku in the fourth round of the UEFA Champions League main stage:
"This is a result equal to victory. Our team has developed a lot, grown a lot. Our club is already at a level where we are talking about victory in the match against Chelsea. I think we played very well as a team. We knew that the opponent was playing with high pressing. They created difficulties for us. But we overcame everything. Thank God, today we held our heads high, not down. We fought, we struggled. We also thank our fans for not leaving us alone here today."
Jafarquliyev also answered a question about his performance and future career:
"I believe in myself. I was like that today too. It doesn't matter who the opponent is. The main thing is to go out and show my game. I think I managed to do that today too. I have already played against footballers of this level several times. We have not had any discussions with my manager about new offers. There may be interest from European clubs, but if there is interest, it does not mean that I will be transferred to any club. For this to happen, negotiations must be held with my manager, and I must also agree. There is interest, but I cannot say anything yet about how real it is. I will have to sit down and talk to my manager about this topic sometime."
