The Azerbaijani national football team will face two important tests in Baku this week. Our team, coached by Aykhan Abbasov, will host Iceland on November 13 and France on November 16 as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round.
Former national team defender Elshad Ahmadov revealed his expectations for the match against Iceland to fanat.az.
The former national team defender emphasized that, "We lost to Iceland 0:5 in the opponent's field. That defeat itself is a motivation for the guys. Logically, aggression arising from that defeat should arise in the guys. I believe that this will happen. I am sure that head coach Aykhan Abbasov will properly prepare the players for this match. Of course, the opponent's squad includes players who play in Europe's top leagues. It is a superior team in physical terms. Iceland is an opponent that can make fast transitions. But with desire, it is possible to neutralize all the opponent's advantages. I think we can win at least one point. We will fight at home. We must believe and play to the end."
