"There will be many innovations in the 2025/2026 season of the Azerbaijan Premier League." Sport24.az reports that Elgiz Abbasov, Technical Sports Director of the Professional Football League, told reporters about this.
He stated that the main innovations are related to the format of the championship, the number of teams and the legionnaire limit: "This season 12 teams will compete. Unlike last year, this season the championship will consist of 3 rounds. As a result, there is no difference in the number of home and away games of the teams. If the legionnaire limit was 7+4 last season, this year there is no limit. There have also been changes in fees, which you know."
Abbasov also drew attention to the infrastructure problems of the teams in the Premier League:
"Football is always a sport that loves innovation. We have already signed certain changes. Teams may have infrastructure problems. We previously visited the stadium of "Karvan" and "Imishli". The condition of the stadiums there did not allow playing football not only at the Premier League, but even at the amateur level. But both clubs have already started repairs."
He emphasized that the topic related to stadiums worries the PFL: "A month before the start of the championship, we ask the clubs for their stadiums. Currently, there are problems with 4 stadiums. Repair work will begin at "Turan Tovuz" on July 20. During this period, they will hold their games at "Azersun Arena". True, it will upset the fans of Tovuz. But it is a good step related to infrastructure, there will already be a natural field."
