Former Chelsea, Real Madrid and Belgium midfielder Eden Hazard has called for the video assistant referee (VAR) to be abolished.
İdman.Biz reports that the midfielder noted that the technology irritates him and deprives football of excitement. Hazard believes that the introduction of the system has not solved the existing problems that players and referees previously faced.
"There is a certain charm to injustice in football, even if it is difficult for us fans to accept when it is directed against us. VAR removes too many emotions. I watched Torga's (Azar) game. The Leven player scored a great goal, but waited five minutes, not knowing if it would count, and only then celebrated. It's very bad. Yes, I would get rid of VAR," RTBF quotes Hazard.
Eden Hazard's brother, Thorgan Hazard, plays for Anderlecht and played against Leven on February 28. Eden Hazard ended his career in 2023 after winning 14 trophies during his career.
