Ronnie Stam, a Dutch champion with "Twente", has been sentenced to 7 years in prison on charges of drug trafficking and money laundering.
Idman.biz reports that the Breda court found the former footballer guilty of cocaine trafficking.
Stam was arrested in June 2024. The 41-year-old footballer and his 43-year-old brother Rudi came to the attention of the police thanks to decrypted correspondence between criminals via a cracked messenger.
The court determined that Ronnie Stam participated in the import of approximately 700 kg of cocaine from Chile and played a "defining and coordinating role" in the process.
Rudi Stam was sentenced in absentia to three and a half years in prison in this case. He is believed to be in Dubai. Last year, he was already sentenced to 4.5 years in prison for similar crimes.
In addition, the brothers must return 1.7 million euros obtained from criminal acts to the state and pay a fine of 30,000 euros.
