US President Donald Trump proposed renaming American football at the draw ceremony for the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Sport24.az reports that the US President spoke about this while speaking at the ceremony:
"If we look at everything that's happening with football in the United States, it seems that we've never given it that name because of a slight conflict with another sport we call football...
Let's think, soccer should actually be called football. This is football, there is no doubt about it. We need to find a different name for the NFL. If you think about it, this name change is a pointless thing."
It should be noted that during the event organized yesterday in Washington, Trump was presented with the FIFA Peace Prize.
