Italian sports newspaper "Tuttosport" has named the late Portuguese striker Diogo Jota as the best footballer of 2025.
Idman.Biz reports that Diogo Jota died in a car accident in northwestern Spain on July 3, 2025, at the age of 28.
"We decided to give the award to Diogo Jota. This choice emphasizes that the Portuguese footballer is an example for the entire football world," said "Tuttosport" in a statement.
During the accident, the car driven by Jota lost control after a tire burst, then crashed into a ditch and caught fire. The striker's brother, Andre, a professional footballer in the Portuguese second division, also died in the accident.
