France national team coach Didier Deschamps answered a question about the lack of French coaches in the current Champions League season. Sport24.az reports that he made a statement to RMC Sport about this:
"Yes, I regret it. I think that even in France, French coaches are not valued. That's my impression. And their number is decreasing abroad. Are we worse than others? I don't think so. Are others better organized? Of course.
The head coaches of the teams that are at the top of Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 are foreigners. There are talented French coaches, but they are not always in demand. That's why I'm very disappointed. This statistic exists and it's not good. But this does not call into question the quality of our coaches. There is a lot to improve to reverse this trend."
It should be noted that the French national team, led by Deschamps, will face Ukraine today as part of the 2026 World Cup qualifying round.
