Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice has revealed that legendary David Beckham contacted him after his stunning performance against Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League last season.
Idman.Biz reports with reference to The Sun that Rice frustrated Thibaut Courtois twice from free kicks at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, giving his team a 2-1 victory. Although the London representative won 5:1 on aggregate, they lost to PSG in the semi-finals and said goodbye to the tournament.
Rice recalls the message from Beckham after those historic goals:
"David wrote to me about it on Instagram. It was unbelievable because he is one of the greatest free-kick masters in history. I met Beckham for the first time in Qatar. All the players looked at him like a god because he is Beckham".
The English footballer said that he trusts his instincts when taking free kicks: "When you get to the ball, it's all about feeling. You need to know where and at what speed to hit the ball. This is our strength and it helps us a lot this year".
