Tottenham's new head coach, Roberto De Zerbi, has apologized for comments he made about Mason Greenwood during his time at Marseille.
Idman.Biz reports that various Tottenham fan groups had previously issued statements regarding De Zerbi's defense of the English player after the former Manchester United winger was accused of assaulting a woman in 2022.
The charges were dropped in 2023. Roberto had called Mason a "good guy who pays a high price" at the time.
"I have never wanted to minimize the problem of violence against women, or violence against anyone in general. In my life I have always defended those who are more sensitive, more fragile. I have always fought and defended my position on behalf of those most at risk.
Those who know me well will understand that I am not one to compromise for the sake of winning more games or another title.
If this topic has offended anyone, I apologize - I have a daughter and I am very sensitive to these things and always have been.
I hope that over time people will get to know me better and understand that I didn't want to take a position at that moment," said De Zerbi.
